HOMEWORK DIRECTIONS
WHAT IF I LOSE MY HOMEWORK JOURNAL?????? OR I LEAVE IT AT SCHOOL AND DON'T HAVE MY HOMEWORK ON THE THURSDAY DEADLINE?
Don't fret! FIND YOUR JOURNAL AS SOON AS YOU CAN but in the meantime, do the following to get your homework credit for the week!
1.) Read and write a one page summary of what you read. Pay attention to your conventions and good grammar in your writing - you get fractional points for good work!
2.) Download a math page about something we are learning in class or watch a MATH video here on the Website under the Math tab and write a one page reflection on what you learned to do!
3.) Find the vocabulary words on the classroom website and write them down with a definition and a picture. Don't forget to study them because you have a spelling test on Thursdays!
4.) Find the idioms on the classroom website for the week and write them down and define them.
TURN ALL THESE THINGS INTO THE TEACHER ON THURSDAY MORNING! You only get to use this system three times in the year so keep track of your journals to avoid problems!

IN THE FUTURE WE WILL BE USING SOME OF THESE RESOURCES BELOW- WAIT UNTIL WE INSTRUCT YOU TO USE THESE FOR HOMEWORK!
HOMEWORK for the next few months will be the following:
TED TALK LINKS! Access this link and watch one TED TALK. Write a one page summary on the talk. YOU MUST USE PARAGRAPHING in order to get full credit for your writing! Remember - each paragraph has a topic sentence and supporting details in it. https://www.ted.com/topics/children https://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=science&sort=newest https://www.ted.com/talks?topics%5B%5D=science&sort=newest READING/WRITING Reading: PICK AN ICON AND FOCUS IN ON YOUR READING FOR THE WEEK. WRITE A ONE PAGE REFLECTION/SUMMARY - USING AN ICON ON WHAT YOU READ THIS WEEK. IN THE FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BE READING SOMETHING SUBSTANTIAL. A CHAPTER BOOK OR NON-FICTION BOOK OF INTEREST ARE GOOD EXAMPLES. MATH Math will be a combination of MobyMax and worksheets. We will be letting the students know about which is to be done. MobyMax is ALWAYS a great option if you are looking for more math for your child! It is leveled to their abilities and helps them to grow. IDIOMS We will continue to explore the literary device of idioms. Students will have three idioms each week they need to research the meanings of and the origin of the idiom. (Where did it come from?) VOCABULARY We will be delving into the vocabulary of OCEANOGRAPHY! Same system - 10 words a week and they will be loaded up to the website. Students will have a test on Fridays! |
USE THE ICONS IN YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!
What do the ICONS mean?
We use the Depth and Complexity Icons throughout our school to help us think more deeply about what we are learning. These Icons represent the areas we focus on in our units of study and our everyday learning. They are part of our classroom homework as well. Don't worry if some of them feel too difficult for your topic. Use the ones you can and as you get better using them you will be able to explore more! Good Luck!
